Rocket Lab announced on July 27 a $266 million award from U.S. Space Force Space Systems Command for 12 suborbital HASTE launches from a new facility at the Pacific Spaceport Complex-Alaska in Kodiak. HASTE is Rocket Lab's dedicated hypersonic accelerator platform. The contract includes options for six additional launches and marks Rocket Lab's largest single award to date. First launch is targeted for no earlier than end of 2026. Kodiak's high-latitude geography is optimal for hypersonic test trajectories that match certain missile defense geometries, explaining why the Space Force is activating a new site rather than consolidating at existing ranges.
The NRC published two separate Federal Register corrections within 24 hours. The first, effective July 27, 2026, withdrew outdated guidance related to modernization of reactor licensing and siting practices under Executive Order 14300. The second, published July 28, 2026 (Federal Register Doc 2026-15213), corrected the Risk-Informed, Technology-Inclusive Regulatory Framework for Advanced Reactors, commonly known as Part 53. Part 53 is the NRC's first new reactor licensing rule since 1989 and the gate through every next-generation commercial reactor, molten salt, sodium-cooled, microreactors, must pass. The corrections signal active quality control as developers begin pre-application engagement.
The FDA published final guidance on July 28, 2026 (Federal Register Doc 2026-15187) standardizing laboratory-value eligibility thresholds for cancer clinical trials. The guidance allows sponsors to apply more evidence-based, less conservative cutoffs for kidney function, liver enzymes, and blood counts, broadening eligible patient populations and accelerating data accumulation in oncology studies.

Watch for the first developer pre-application submissions under corrected Part 53 guidance, delays or resubmissions would signal the corrections did not fully resolve underlying ambiguities.
