WHAT HAPPENED
Nuclear Turbines, a Manchester-based BAE Systems spinout founded by former BAE Principal Engineer Jeremy Owston and Professor Tim Abram, has raised £15 million (approximately $20 million USD) in a foundational seed round led by IQ Capital, joined by Rhapsody Venture Partners, Zero Carbon Capital, and Empirical Ventures. The company's core bet is to replace steam-turbine systems in nuclear reactors with high-temperature turbine technology adapted from jet engines and gas turbines, targeting a cost structure that could make compact reactors economically viable for behind-the-meter deployment at data centers, factories, and industrial plants.
